SUMMARY:NOOKIE & COLIN STEVEN IN CONVERSATION
DESCRIPTION:As part of their continuing series celebrating British music culture\, Soundstage Hi-Fi is pleased to welcome pioneering jungle producer\, DJ\, and remixer Nookie alongside Colin Steven of Velocity Press on Thursday 4 December. \nA foundational figure in the birth of jungle\, Nookie – aka Gavin Cheung – helped define the genre’s euphoric blend of rolling breakbeats\, soulful pianos\, and deep\, system-shaking basslines. From early anthems like “Give a Little Love” and Cloud 9’s “You Got Me Burnin’” to era-defining classics such as “Only You\,” “The Sound of Music\,” and engineering work on The Renegade’s “Terrorist\,” his fingerprints are all over the sound that shaped a generation. Nookie will be joining us to discuss his life in music and spin formative tracks on our Technics 1210s through the TPI system – a rare chance to hear these tunes on true high-fidelity audio. \nAlongside him\, Colin Steven\, founder of Velocity Press and former editor of the influential Knowledge Magazine\, will bring his deep archival knowledge of drum & bass culture. He’ll be presenting and selling essential books\, including Who Say Reload\, Knowledge 25th Anniversary\, State of Bass and How You Make Me Feel\, offering context and stories from decades inside the scene. \nTickets are extremely limited. Email Dean or call 020 8440 9509 to reserve your place.

SUMMARY:FOLK BERLIN LAUNCH
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the launch of FOLK\, the prize-nominated debut novel by Stef Macbeth\, at Sound Metaphors’ new Neukölln premises. This fiercely independent Berlin record shop and party crew embodies the underground spirit that runs through FOLK – the DIY ethics and authentic spaces where music culture thrives. \nStef will be in conversation with fellow Velocity Press author Paul Hanford (Coming To Berlin\, Lost & Sound podcast)\, exploring FOLK’s themes of youth\, belonging\, and what happens when underground communities fracture. Between conversations\, Stef and Paul will be playing records that connect to the book’s musical journey – from 1990s UK rave culture to today’s Berlin underground. \nFOLK captures a pivotal moment when youth culture met political resistance in 1990s Britain. SUMMARY:FOLK LONDON LAUNCH
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the launch of FOLK\, the prize-nominated debut novel by Stef Macbeth. Author Emma Warren (Dance Your Way Home\, Faber) will be in conversation with Stef about this powerful story of youth\, community\, and what happens when the places we call home disappear. \nEmma Warren is one of the UK’s leading writers on youth culture and club culture. Her research explores how music and youth organisations shape identity and belonging\, and her forthcoming book on youth clubs will be published by Faber & Faber. She brings unique insight to FOLK’s exploration of 1990s Britain\, when youth culture found both freedom and fallout. \nFOLK captures the moment when a youth group becomes home for Mark and his friends – until Jason arrives and everything fractures. Set against the backdrop of the Criminal Justice Act and underground music culture\, it’s a story about belonging\, loyalty\, and finding your path when everything you thought you knew falls apart. \nThe launch takes place as part of photographer Yushy’s exhibition for Section 63: Underground & Unmasted – Documenting Underground London Raves\, creating a powerful dialogue between FOLK’s historical fiction and contemporary documentation of underground culture. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Select options	\n This product has multiple variants. SUMMARY:YUSHY SECTION 63 EXHIBITION
DESCRIPTION:To mark the launch of his new photobook Section 63: Underground & Unmastered – Documenting Underground London Raves\, photographer Yushy presents an exhibition at The Farsight Gallery from 3 – 9 September. \nThis powerful book documents the raw energy of London’s underground rave scene\, capturing a new wave of DIY party crews reclaiming space in the face of increasing nightclub closures. Shot over several years with intimate access\, the images offer a rare glimpse into a community driven by resistance\, unity\, and the love of sound. \nNamed after the infamous clause in the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 — the law that sought to crush rave culture — Section 63 is both a tribute and a call to arms for the next generation of ravers. \nThe private view is on Thursday 4 September from 7pm – 10pm. Yushy will be in conversation with Ed Gillet\, so join us for a night of talk\, music\, and drinks. Admission is free\, but please get a ticket in advance to ensure entry. SUMMARY:DANCE OR DIE ROTTERDAM LAUNCH
DESCRIPTION:What is hardcore? It means many things to many people\, and they’re all correct. It’s best described as a feeling\, an attitude\, a way of life. So\, how do you begin to write its history? It took four intensive years (and many many revisions) for club culture journalist Holly Dicker to curate a decade of research into Dance or Die: A History of Hardcore. \nJoin us on Thursday 17 July in the Worm Foyer during Eendracht Festival for the DANCE OR DIE ROTTERDAM launch\, and the first PRSPCT Radio live show in way too long. \nBrowse PRSPCT records – and purchase your copy of Dance or Die – whilst knocking back a few HARD CORE beers with the PRSPCT family for an evening of discourse and diehard DJ sets\, presented by author Holly (and former PRSPCT Radio host) out-bossing the boss. Did you know that PRSPCT in its primordial days was actually a breakcore party\, before its UK-born Rotterdam-raised tattooed-punk chieftain decided to indelibly fuse British drum & bass with Dutch hardcore to create the raving label empire we all know and love today? \nThat’s why for this special edition of the resurrected PRSPCT Radio live show\, we’re going back to the roots with some extra awesome guests: Thrasher joins the founding fathers of (American) breakcore and punk-rock jungelism Baseck and Doormouse to decide once and for all what the hell is breakcore anyways\, and why is it the most hardcore of the hardcore. \nBaseck is gonna play his 30 most influential breakcore tracks – in 30 minutes!! – before reminding us why he’s the baddass m/f in the scene right now. Plus killer closing sets from the most Rotterdam gabber in Rotterdam right now\, REEZA\, and the eviscerating Sunshine Terrorist Kilbourne bringing the hardcore heat all the way from NYC! \nCan’t make the event\, but wanna read up and nerd out with us? Tune into the PRSPCT YouTube channel for the after-show broadcast on Wednesday 23 July. \nWhat is hardcore? (and breakcore??) Let’s find out together!

SUMMARY:DANCE OR DIE MANCHESTER LAUNCH
DESCRIPTION:What is hardcore? It means many things to many people\, and they’re all correct. It’s best described as a feeling\, an attitude\, a way of life. So how do you begin to write its history? It took four intensive years (and many many revisions) for club culture journalist Holly Dicker to curate a decade of research into Dance or Die: A History of Hardcore. \nJoin us on Sunday 13 July at Renae for the DANCE OR DIE MANCHESTER launch with a popup zine and bookshop from 20k and a Dead Sheep. \nBrowse hardcore records at renae’s in house store Future Volumes – and purchase your copy of Dance or Die from the 20k and a dead sheep stall – whilst treating yourself to a delicious cocktail ahead of a lazy Sunday evening of expanded diehard stories and discourse around Manchester’s storied past\, present and phuture rave scene. \nHolly presents her own hardcore history – which started in a Boddingtons Brewery scheduled for demolition way way back in 2006 – before moderating a Manchester community building panel with special guests: alt-queer club promoter Rebecca Shaw from The White Hotel; nightlife photographer Jody Hartley whose work captures the intensity and intimacy of Manchester after dark\, from a raver’s POV; and Mia FKA Hardcore co-founder of Manchester’s latest queer feminist run club night\, K.O\, preaching the neo-gabber gospel to the next generation. \nLocal legend Mark XTC ends the night with a special DJ set taking us back to the ’90s ardkore junglist sound this city was founded on – after a quick chat with Holly about how winning the North West DMC DJ Championships in 1990 set him on a path chasing breaks across three decades. Alongside partner Marcus Intalex\, nobody has turned more people onto bass music than Mr Xtra Tuff Cutta! \nWhat is hardcore? Let’s find out together!

SUMMARY:Exist to Resist Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Free parties\, raves\, festivals\, performance\, protest and demonstration. These are the words that introduced the Exist To Resist book for the very first time in 2017. For over three decades Matt Smith\, aka MATTKO\, has been immersed in the evolution of this uniquely British DiY culture as an artist and creative producer. Exist To Resist is a book of Matt’s photographs that captures the free party scene and celebrates the lost freedom of rave\, festival and protest culture in 1990s Britain. \nEarlier this year we published The Tories Are The Real Criminals\, a zine of Matt’s images documenting the three historic demonstrations that took place in 1994 against the encroaching Criminal Justice Act in the UK. Matt will be exhibiting images from both publications and more from his extensive archive at a free exhibition at The Farsight Gallery in central London from 7 – 14 August. Other attractions include an audio-visual installation of Just D’s archive rave footage and B Storm will have the Desert Storm sound system rig on display alongside some of his own art. \nWhile Exist To Resist is currently out of print (Matt is currently working on a second edition)\, you’ll be able to buy The Tories Are The Real Criminals zines and posters alongside our other free party books\, Dreaming in Yellow and A Darker Electricity. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n
