Photographer Yushy, whose book Section 63 dives deep into the energy of the contemporary free party scene, has spent the year seeking inspiration both on and off the dancefloor. From reading The Artist’s Way, discovering Sherelle’s electrifying new EP and catching standout sets by Plastician and Theo Parrish, to finding fresh ideas in libraries and museums, he’s been reconnecting with creativity wherever it hits.
What book have you read this year?
I’ve been reading Dance or Die and The Artist’s Way.
Any new favourite films/TV programmes?
I finally got into Breaking Bad, and I’ve also really enjoyed The Voice of Hind Rajab.
Any new favourite tracks, records or releases from the year?
I’ve been very into SHERELLE’s new EP – it’s the perfect balance of energy and intensity. I’ve also been following loads of people who collect every kind of hardcore music, which has been great, and I’ve been sent some amazing mixes from Brazilian DJs.
Have you been listening to any podcasts, audiobooks or radio shows?
I’ve been really into the Screen Rot podcast.
Heard any standout DJ sets or been to memorable parties or events in 2025?
Plastician, Oneman and Neffa-T at Outlook completely blew my mind. Theo Parrish at Gala Festival was also fantastic.
Have you found any new sources of inspiration or creativity over the last year?
I’ve been spending a lot more time in libraries and museums, really trying to find inspiration that isn’t coming from a screen.
What are your reflections on your book now that it’s out? Has anything surprised you?
Too many to list – but I’m relieved that all the preparation is done, and I’m blown away by how many people have engaged with it.
What are you looking forward to in 2026?
I’m excited to see more people pushing the boundaries between the mainstream and the underground.
