Jack Chuter

Jack Chuter is a writer and musician from Bournemouth, UK.

Their previous book, Storm Static Sleep: A History of Post-Rock (Function Books), was published in 2015 as the world’s first book dedicated to the genre. Jack is the editor of the UK experimental music site ATTN:Magazine, hosts the Crucial Listening podcast, and runs the experimental music label Hard Return. They’ve previously hosted monthly radio shows on Resonance Extra and CAMP, with bylines appearing in The Vinyl Factory, Zero Tolerance, and Rock-A-Rolla.

Jack has been making shoegaze and ambient music under the pseudonym Chuter for 20 years, including several “heavy shoegaze” covers of Boards of Canada. Their latest musical pursuits are the minimal noise project Guesswork and the noise band Falling Cat Problem.
