  • Join us at @thegreyhound.uk in Peckham on Wednesday 11 June for the soft launch of Future Language of the Ikonoklast - a landmark publication chronicling one of the most visionary and influential movements in UK graffiti history.

In 1989, six groundbreaking artists - Rough, Part2, Stormboy, System, Tee Roc and Solo1 - joined forces under the leadership of Juice 126 to form the Ikonoklast Movement. With a radical manifesto and a hunger to transcend traditional graffiti, they forged a new visual language, pushing boundaries and reshaping the cultural landscape.

This richly illustrated book, authored by Remi Rough, captures their untold story, celebrating the collective’s legacy and groundbreaking contributions to the post-graffiti era.

On the night, hear firsthand from Ikonoklast members @juiceonetwosix @jason_system @chu3d & @remirough as they discuss the genesis, philosophy, and enduring impact of the movement. The night will also feature DJ sets from @onetwoalafu @strictlykev @daddydarkrdc & @4eyekwame

The book isn’t in shops until 18 July, so this is an earlybird opportunity to buy a signed copy, including the limited edition dust jacket version. It’s free entry but RSVP: https://ra.co/events/2172929

Look out for more Ikonoklast events around the UK this summer.

  • Our latest poster has just arrived. It celebrates 32 years of Desert Storm Sound System as we’re about to publish Take No Prisoners, the posthumous memoir of DS founder Keith Robinson. It’s an A2 (42 cm x 59.4 cm) poster and printed on heavyweight matt-laminated paper.

The poster is out now, and the Take No Prisoners book is scheduled for release in mid-June. Buy both at velocitypress.uk/product/take-no-prisoners-book

“Keith was one of the most remarkable and inspiring characters in UK rave culture history – an intrepid motivator who led a thrilling life to a heartbreaking conclusion.
Matthew Collin (author of Dream Machines, Rave On and Altered State)

“Keith fearlessly brought the healing energy of music to where it was most needed. Whether that was across borders into war-torn Bosnia, or through police roadblocks to fill the empty spaces in Britain’s soul.”
Mark Angelo Harrison (author of A Darker Electricity: The Origins of the Spiral Tribe Sound System)

“I think in any life, and especially the party scene, just occasionally we come across someone whose charisma, energy and sheer lust for life takes your breath away. They say that those stars which burn the brightest burn the fastest and that was Keith. A rare soul, a legend, a tragic loss…”
Harry Harrison (author of Dreaming in Yellow: The Story of the DiY Sound System)

  • Great day at @internationalmusicsummit in Ibiza yesterday where not one but two of our authors involved. • Selling The Night: When Club Culture Meets Brands, Advertising and the Creative Industries by Andy Crysell has arrived back from the printers and looking good.

Selling The Night is the result of nine months of research and interviews - with DJs, promoters, agents, marketers, writers, designers, photographers, curators, academics, educators, activists, policy-makers, venture capitalists and more. It explores the expansive topic of how club culture intersects with brands, advertising and the creative industries.

Moving from disco first making a mark on wider culture some 50 years ago, through the 1990s convergence of youth marketing and dance music, to modern-day brand partnerships, it’s a story with two main directions of travel:

1. Brands moving into club culture: herein, challenges around value exchange, meaningful support and how to design better collaborations.

2. People and ideas emerging from club culture: the impact on media, fashion, gaming, advertising, design, beauty, tourism and more.

The book is available as a paperback and a limited edition hardback and both editions have a 16-page colour photo section. It’s in all good book shops and record stores from 4 April but it’s available now at velocitypress.uk/shop and the limited edition hardback is exclusive to our shop

All pre-orders were sent on Monday so should be arriving soon. If you pre-ordered one, feel free to share a pic or video and make sure to tag us. #velocitypress #sellingthenightbook #andycrysell #marketing #marketingbooks #musicmarketing #clubculture
  • The Trial of Jonah by Justin Robertson is back from the printers, so we got Justin over to Velocity Press HQ to sign the pre-orders. The title is just our second fiction title and our first original (Trip City was a reissue).

Jonah Plantagenet is the world’s most celebrated DJ, prize-winning author, feted artist and arbiter of cultural fashion. History’s greatest criminal. From the mists of pre-history via Roman Britain to the birth of Acid House, the arcades of Slough to the court of King John, chip shops in Manchester to biker rumbles in California, this Son of a Demon God takes the words from J G Ballard’s mouth, swipes the genius of Kandinsky, sucks out the minds of famous DJs, possesses Rudolf Steiner and resurrects the Beatles. Now he must face his judgement.

Oh yes, and for the crate diggers and fellow enthusiasts, there are handy playlists peppered throughout the book providing a mental soundtrack.

The Trial of Jonah is due for release in shops on 21 February but order now at velocitypress.uk/shop to receive a signed book and a free A6 print. The print is a painting by Justin called Remote Podium, and the book cover features a small section of it.

“The Trial of Jonah has the humour and the heart, the meaning and the mixtapes. It is a novel of great brilliance and charm, reaching into the core of an England that is seldom captured in fiction. The book is a stylish path to self-knowledge for those who recognise the weird interzones of contemporary Britain. In a world where existential comedy meets the certainty of death, where the suburbs can be granted their poetry and their sound, a novel has arisen which pulses with a magical sense of freedom.” - Andrew O’Hagan

“A hallucinatory memoir of the twentieth century and beyond by a time-travelling head, The Trial of Jonah is a book that is truly stranger than fiction.” - David Keenan

  • Selling The Night: When Club Culture Meets Brands, Advertising and the Creative Industries by Andy Crysell is due for release on 4 April but pre-order at velocitypress.uk/shop to get your name printed in the book and receive it first in March. The book is available as a paperback and a limited edition hardback that’s exclusive to our shop.

Selling The Night moves from disco first making a mark on wider culture some 50 years ago, through the 1990s convergence of youth marketing and dance music, to modern-day brand partnerships.

All the while, it comes back to the night fostering a different kind of creativity: something urgent, spontaneous, carved out of necessity and often from those living marginalised lives. A creativity that you can’t summon up in an agency or studio environment, via an officially sanctioned arts body or a shiny innovation lab. How to keep that good stuff alive in a gentrified world, where operating without a safety net of privilege is no easy thing.

Selling The Night: When Club Culture Meets Brands, Advertising and the Creative Industries by Andy Crysell has arrived back from the printers and looking good.

Selling The Night: When Club Culture Meets Brands, Advertising and the Creative Industries by Andy Crysell has arrived back from the printers and looking good.

The Trial of Jonah by Justin Robertson is back from the printers, so we got Justin over to Velocity Press HQ to sign the pre-orders.

Selling The Night: When Club Culture Meets Brands, Advertising and the Creative Industries by Andy Crysell is due for release on 4 April but pre-order at velocitypress.uk/shop to get your name printed in the book and receive it first in March. The book is available as a paperback and a limited edition hardback that’s exclusive to our shop.

1. Brands moving into club culture: herein, challenges around value exchange, meaningful support and how to design better collaborations.

2. People and ideas emerging from club culture: the impact on media, fashion, gaming, advertising, design, beauty, tourism and more.
