  • New book announcement!

As queer nightlife moves from the margins to the mainstream, what have we lost – and what can we still gain?

Through Club Commons: Moving Bodies to Grow Movements in Queer Nightlife & Beyond by Anjali Prashar-Savoie we meet the people reshaping nightlife from below: abolitionist security teams creating safety without police, sober raves doubling as mental health support, radical childcare at parties, worker cooperatives taking over venues, and free party crews reclaiming public space.

Part cultural history, part manifesto, Club Commons is a call to protect what we’ve built and reimagine what’s still possible.

Pre-order now at velocitypress.uk/shop to get your name printed in the book and receive it first in January. Out 6th February.

  • Happy publication day to FOLK and its author, Stef Macbeth! Although we’re mostly known for non-fiction, we are still partial to publishing the occasional fiction title and we just couldn’t say no to FOLK.

The book captures the moment when a youth group becomes home for Mark and his friends – until Jason arrives and everything fractures. Set against the backdrop of the Criminal Justice Act and underground music culture, it’s a story about belonging, loyalty, and finding your path when everything you thought you knew falls apart.

It’s available now in all good bookstores (like Foyles in London, where Stef spotted one in the wild), record shops, and directly from velocitypress.uk/shop as well, of course.

Join us to celebrate the launch of FOLK in September:

Saturday September 6 @ 2 pm - 5 pm
The Farsight Gallery, 4-6 Flitcroft Street, London, WC2H 8DJ

Author Emma Warren (Dance Your Way Home/Up the Youth Club) will be in conversation with Stef at the London event at the Farsight. Emma is one of the UK’s leading writers on youth culture and club culture and she brings unique insight to FOLK’s exploration of 1990s Britain, when youth culture found both freedom and fallout.

Thursday September 18 @ 5 pm - 7 pm
Sound Metaphors, Weichselstraße 22, Berlin, 12045

Stef will be in conversation with fellow Velocity Press author Paul Hanford (Coming To Berlin), exploring FOLK’s themes of youth, belonging, and what happens when underground communities fracture. Between conversations, Stef and Paul will be playing records that connect to the book’s musical journey – from 1990s UK rave culture to today’s Berlin underground.

  • New book announcement! UK Rave Flyers 1988–1989 is a deluxe book showcasing original flyers from the breakthrough years of UK acid house. Sourced from phatmedia’s archive and beyond, it captures the raw energy of a scene that exploded from underground parties into a nationwide movement.

Featuring high-quality reproductions of flyers promoting warehouse raves, club nights and early promoters, the book highlights the DIY creativity and bold visual style that defined the era. It’s a visual journey through the scene’s formative years, with the narrative led by the flyers themselves, interspersed with quotes from DJs, designers, promoters and ravers.

It includes over 800 flyers from iconic events like Shoom, Hedonism, Future, Spectrum, Land Of Oz, Apocalypse Now, Hypnosis, Sunrise, RIP, Coozz, Trip, Sin, Genesis, Rage, Wetworld, Rave At The Cave, Boilerhouse, Trip City, the Hacienda and many more one-off and smaller promotions.

The book is A4 (30cm x 21cm), and the pages are printed on premium heavyweight paper. UK Rave Flyers 1988–1989 is due in shops on 7 November, but pre-order at velocitypress.uk/shop by 12 August to get your name printed in the book and receive it first in October.

What a night! 🙏 Huge thanks to Dean (the legend who runs SoundStage Hi-Fi) for hosting the Velocity Press event yesterday - couldn’t ask for a better space. If you haven’t been, SoundStage in Cockfosters is one of the best shops around: brilliant hi-fi gear, welcoming atmosphere, plus you can browse all our books there!

We were joined by Dan Lish and Ben Pedroche for a really special evening - Dan talking about Egostrip Book 2 (his surreal, intricate portraits celebrating hip-hop icons), Ben sharing the story behind Independent As F***: Underground Hip-Hop From 1995–2005. What started as an interview turned into an informal group discussion about what the golden era of hip-hop means to us, political rap, identity, and so many fascinating people in attendance added depth, humour, and passion.

Thanks to everyone who came, shared stories, asked questions - moments like this remind us why we write, illustrate, collect, and love the culture. Until next time! 🔥

Happy publication day to FOLK and its author, Stef Macbeth!

New book announcement!
